Paris, June 2, 2025 In a significant affirmation of bilateral relations, France has reiterated its strong support for India in combating terrorism, while both nations are poised to deepen their economic and strategic partnerships. Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, during his recent visit to Paris, highlighted the mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including defense, aerospace, renewable energy, and digital technology.

Minister Goyal emphasized the robust nature of the India-France relationship, noting that France is India’s 11th largest foreign direct investor, with over 750 French companies operating in India. He also pointed out that bilateral trade between the two countries reached $15 billion in the financial year 2023-24, with Indian exports at about $7 billion and imports at $8 billion. However, he described this trade volume as “suboptimal” given the potential of both economies and called for efforts to expand it further.

In discussions with French officials, Minister Goyal underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, electric vehicles, and digital technology. He highlighted India’s rapidly growing aviation market, noting that the country has orders for nearly 1,500 planes, with potential expansion to 2,000, presenting significant opportunities for French aerospace firms.

The minister also acknowledged France’s support for public projects in Indian cities like Kochi, Nagpur, and Ahmedabad, reflecting the deepening economic engagement between the two nations.

On the security front, France’s unwavering support for India in its fight against terrorism was reaffirmed, strengthening the strategic dimension of the bilateral relationship. This solidarity is particularly significant in the context of global efforts to combat terrorism and maintain regional stability.

Looking ahead, both countries are optimistic about concluding negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union by the end of the year. Such an agreement is expected to further enhance economic cooperation and investment flows between India and France, solidifying their partnership in the years to come.

As India and France celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties and 25 years of strategic partnership, these developments mark a significant step forward in their multifaceted relationship, encompassing economic growth, technological collaboration, and shared security objectives.
