In a significant diplomatic engagement, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to regional peace by assuring Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava that Nepal will not permit its territory to be used against any neighbouring countries.
The assurance was conveyed during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, where Ambassador Srivastava briefed Prime Minister Oli on the recent escalation between India and Pakistan, particularly following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepali national.
Expressing solidarity, Prime Minister Oli condemned the terrorist attack and emphasized Nepal’s unwavering stance against all forms of terrorism. He reiterated that Nepal stands for global peace and will not allow any conflicting power to use its territory against neighbouring countries.
Ambassador Srivastava expressed gratitude for Nepal’s prompt and unequivocal condemnation of the attack and its support for India’s counter-terrorism efforts.
Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier issued a statement mourning the loss of lives and calling for de-escalation, reaffirming Nepal’s commitment to lasting peace and stability in the region.
This diplomatic exchange underscores Nepal’s principled position of neutrality and its dedication to not allowing its territory to be used for activities that could threaten the peace and security of its neighbours.
