April 24, 2025 | Muscat — The 29th edition of the Muscat International Book Fair commenced today at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, marking a significant cultural event in the region. Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, the fair was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This year’s fair boasts participation from 674 publishing houses representing 35 countries, including 640 direct participants and 34 through agencies. The event showcases an impressive collection of 681,041 titles, comprising 467,413 Arabic books and 213,610 foreign publications. Notably, 52,205 new releases from 2024 and 2025 are featured, alongside 27,464 Omani publications, highlighting the nation’s vibrant literary scene. The fair’s theme, “Cultural Diversity and the Richness of Civilisations,” reflects its commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue and understanding. The Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah has been honored as the “Guest of Honour,” presenting a dedicated pavilion that highlights its cultural heritage, historical achievements, and modern developments. A diverse array of activities is scheduled throughout the ten-day event, including 211 cultural events and 155 children’s activities. These programs encompass intellectual seminars, workshops, and interactive performances designed to engage attendees of all ages. In addition to the literary offerings, the fair is celebrating “Saudi Cultural Days,” emphasizing the strong cultural ties between Oman and Saudi Arabia.
