Muscat, Oman – May 14, 2025
In a vibrant celebration of unity and cultural diplomacy, Oman joined European nations in commemorating the 75th anniversary of Europe Day with a landmark jazz concert held at Bait Al Zubair in Muscat on Monday, May 12. The event, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy to Oman, featured a captivating performance by the renowned Italian duo Luca Velotti and Silvia Manco.
The evening was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Ambassador Dr. Afkar bin Nathim bin Ali Al Farsi, Head of the Department of International Trade, Knowledge Economy, and Technology at the Foreign Ministry; H.E. Christophe Farnaud, Ambassador of the European Union to the Sultanate of Oman; and H.E. Pierluigi D’Elia, Ambassador of Italy to the Sultanate of Oman. Senior Omani officials, members of the diplomatic community, cultural figures, and representatives from both Omani and European communities also attended, underscoring the strong ties between Oman and the European Union.
Europe Day marks the historic Schuman Declaration of May 9, 1950, which laid the foundation for the European Union, transforming a war-torn continent into a beacon of peace and prosperity. Reflecting on this milestone, Ambassador Farnaud emphasized the importance of partnerships in building a more secure and prosperous future, stating, “The European Union values the partnership with the Sultanate of Oman and applauds its role in advancing peace and security in the region.”
The jazz concert by Velotti and Manco, blending classic jazz with European soul, served as a cultural bridge, highlighting the shared values of dialogue, respect, and collaboration that define the Europe-Oman partnership. The event not only celebrated a significant European anniversary but also reinforced the commitment to fostering mutual understanding through cultural exchange.
This celebration is part of the European Union’s broader efforts to strengthen cultural ties with Oman, promoting peace and dialogue through the universal language of music.
