The Government of Oman has officially announced a five-day public holiday for Eid Al Adha 2025, spanning from Thursday, June 5, to Monday, June 9. This decision, guided by Royal directives, applies to both public and private sector employees, with work resuming on Tuesday, June 10.
The announcement follows the confirmed sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon, marking the beginning of the Islamic month and setting the date for Eid Al Adha on Friday, June 6. Traditionally, the holiday extends from the 9th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah, aligning with the Hajj pilgrimage and the Day of Arafah.
Given that Eid falls on a Friday this year, an additional compensatory day off has been granted on Monday, June 9, ensuring a continuous five-day break for residents.
Eid Al Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The occasion is marked by special prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and those in need.
With the extended holiday, many Omanis are expected to engage in family gatherings, travel, and cultural festivities. Authorities have advised the public to plan accordingly and adhere to safety guidelines during the celebrations.
